Ratchet & Clank Gets Native PC and Android Port via OpenRAC

The original Ratchet & Clank is now listed as playable through OpenRAC, an unofficial project bringing the PlayStation 2 series to Windows, Linux, macOS, and Android without traditional console emulation.

OpenRAC uses matching decompilation to reconstruct the games' original code in C before compiling it into native applications. The project also replaces PlayStation 2-specific graphics and system functions with modern platform implementations.

According to the official OpenRAC GitHub repository, the 2002 Ratchet & Clank is the first supported game, covering its European PAL and North American NTSC versions.

The Android implementation uses an ARM64 application with OpenGL ES rendering and touchscreen controls. Its development documentation also describes support for external controllers, graphics settings, and an experimental Vulkan rendering option.

On desktop platforms, OpenRAC uses a custom renderer with widescreen support and optional enhanced graphics features. A dedicated launcher manages supported game versions and configuration.

The project also includes modding tools, a modification SDK, and a level editor built around Godot 4.

Development extends beyond the original game. Going Commando, Up Your Arsenal, Deadlocked, Size Matters, and Secret Agent Clank have associated decompilation work, but none is currently listed as playable through the native port.

OpenRAC remains a work in progress, and its playable designation does not guarantee identical stability or performance across supported devices.

The project does not include copyrighted game assets. Models, textures, audio, and levels must come from a legally obtained supported copy.

OpenRAC is an independent fan project and is not affiliated with Sony Interactive Entertainment or Insomniac Games.
