Resident Evil Movie Gets a PS1-Style Fan Game
A Resident Evil fan is transforming Zach Cregger's 2026 movie into a PlayStation 1-style survival horror game, recreating scenes from the film with fixed camera angles and retro-inspired graphics.
Independent developer Julian Zamora, known as @chicanogoth on Instagram, has shared early gameplay footage of the unofficial project, titled Resident Evil: The Movie The Game.
The fan-made adaptation is being developed using the Godot engine and draws inspiration from the original Resident Evil games released during the PlayStation 1 era.
The gameplay demonstration recreates an early scene from Cregger's film in which Bryan, portrayed by Austin Abrams, takes shelter inside an isolated barn during a snowstorm.
As Bryan moves through the environment, an infected dog pursues him while the camera switches between fixed perspectives, closely resembling the presentation of classic Resident Evil titles.
Zamora explained that recreating the pre-rendered backgrounds associated with the earliest games remains challenging. As a result, the current project has a visual style closer to Resident Evil Code: Veronica.
The developer has expressed enthusiasm about the experiment and plans to share additional development updates.
Released in theaters on September 18, 2026, Cregger's Resident Evil film follows Bryan, a medical courier attempting to reach Raccoon City General Hospital during an outbreak.
The movie has inspired several fan creations, including modifications that bring its characters into classic Resident Evil games.
Resident Evil: The Movie The Game remains an unofficial project, with no confirmed release date, supported platforms, or public demo.
Capcom has not announced any involvement in the fan-made adaptation.
