Resident Evil Outbreak 1 and 2 Now Playable in Browsers
Resident Evil Outbreak and Resident Evil Outbreak: File #2 are now available through an unofficial browser-based project, allowing players to revisit both PlayStation 2 survival horror games without installing traditional emulation software.
The project, called Outbreakweb, brings both games to modern web browsers with online multiplayer support for up to four players.
According to the official project website, players can access all five original scenarios from each game, either alone or cooperatively with friends.
Online multiplayer includes public and private rooms, allowing players to create sessions and explore Raccoon City together. The browser interface also displays available rooms and connected players.
Both games support keyboard controls and modern gamepads, with customizable key bindings and fullscreen display options.
Players can also adjust rendering resolution and save their progress through virtual PlayStation 2 memory cards stored locally in the browser. Save files can be exported and imported when switching devices.
The project uses WebGPU for graphics acceleration, although compatibility and performance depend on the browser and hardware. Some mobile browsers also support the experience through touchscreen controls.
Unlike traditional downloads, the games load their required data directly through the website, although an initial loading period is still necessary.
Outbreakweb describes itself as an unofficial preservation project with no affiliation to Capcom.
While both games are accessible through the service, stability may vary, and their long-term availability is not guaranteed. Capcom has not announced an official browser release of either title.
