Resident Evil Outbreak PC Port Adds Four-Player Online Co-Op

Resident Evil Outbreak has received an unofficial native Windows port featuring four-player online co-op, 4K output, and a built-in gameplay randomizer. The project, called RE: Outbreak, uses static recompilation to bring Capcom's 2003 PlayStation 2 survival-horror game to modern PCs.

Developed by Ninjacornix from an earlier project by sp00nznet, the port uses PS2Recomp to translate the original game's code into a Windows executable. Graphics rendering is handled through paraLLEl-GS rather than conventional PS2 emulation.

According to the developer's official GitHub release, version 1.0.19 arrived on October 24, 2026, with fixes for geometry-processing slowdowns encountered in later rooms.

The developer describes Outbreak File #1 as fully playable, including its scenarios, cinematics, audio, and save functionality.

Online multiplayer uses openSNAP, allowing up to four players to connect without PlayStation Network accounts. However, the latest release notes acknowledge that separate-PC internet sessions, reconnections, and complete multiplayer scenario runs have not been fully validated.

A synchronized randomizer can alter weapons, ammunition, ordinary items, and supported enemy encounters while sharing settings between connected players.

Other features include widescreen output, 4K display settings, controller remapping, DualSense support, cheats, and graphics filtering options. Performance can still vary in CPU-intensive areas.

The project currently supports the NTSC-U version 2.00 of Resident Evil Outbreak File #1. File #2 remains in development and is not playable.

RE: Outbreak is an unofficial fan project unaffiliated with Capcom. It requires legally obtained game files and does not distribute copyrighted game assets.
