Resident Evil Requiem Cut Zeno Boss Fight Found in Game Files
A previously planned boss fight between Leon S. Kennedy and Zeno has reportedly been discovered in the game files of Resident Evil Requiem. The unused code suggests that Capcom developed several combat mechanics for the encounter before removing it from the final game.
According to modder and dataminer Keff0, the files contain references to a detailed battle against Zeno, an antagonist associated with The Connections who bears a strong resemblance to Albert Wesker. Although Zeno plays an important role in the story, players never face him in a traditional boss fight.
The discovered code suggests that Zeno would have used a combination of melee attacks and ranged combat. His planned moves reportedly included heavy punches, rapid charges, consecutive strikes, jumping attacks, and defensive techniques capable of countering Leon's actions.
One particularly interesting mechanic involved Zeno disarming Leon during close combat. The encounter also appeared to feature a separate sniper phase, during which Zeno could move between firing positions and attack the player from a distance.
Despite the amount of unused combat code, Keff0 has been unable to restore the encounter. Essential components, including enemy activation triggers, arena assets, and scripts controlling the battle's different phases, are reportedly missing from the available PC and PS5 game files.
It remains unclear why Capcom removed the fight. One possibility is that the developers wanted to maintain the pacing of the final chapter and keep the main confrontation focused on Victor Gideon, although this explanation has not been officially confirmed.
The discovery offers another look at content that changed during Resident Evil Requiem's development. Capcom has not announced any plans to restore the Zeno boss fight in a future update or expansion.
