Rockstar Expects Faster Game Development After GTA 6
Rockstar Games executives believe the studio could develop future titles faster after Grand Theft Auto VI, thanks to major improvements in its technology, development tools, and production processes.
The company has become known for the long gaps between its major releases. Grand Theft Auto V launched in 2013, followed by Red Dead Redemption 2 in 2018, while GTA 6 has required an even longer development cycle.
According to Instant Gaming News, Rockstar executives Phil Hooker and Aaron Garbut discussed the studio's future during an interview with Bloomberg.
Hooker explained that the technology, game engine, and development teams established for GTA 6 could provide a stronger foundation for upcoming projects.
Rather than rebuilding essential systems for every major release, Rockstar expects to reuse and expand the tools created during GTA 6's development.
Garbut also highlighted the experience accumulated by the studio over the past three decades, suggesting that improved collaboration and shared technical knowledge could help teams make decisions more efficiently.
These improvements may allow Rockstar to shorten production cycles without abandoning the scale and detail associated with its games.
However, the company has not announced its next major project or confirmed how much development time these improvements could save.
It remains unknown whether Rockstar will return to the Red Dead Redemption franchise or focus on an entirely new game after GTA 6.
For now, the executives' comments suggest that the extensive work behind Grand Theft Auto VI could benefit Rockstar's future releases long after the game launches.
