Rockstar Games Accused of Rewarding Employees for Sharing Union Information

Rockstar Games is facing allegations that certain employees received additional paid leave in exchange for sharing information about union activities with company management. The accusations have emerged amid an ongoing employment tribunal involving former staff members dismissed in October 2025.

The legal dispute concerns 34 employees who were dismissed across the United Kingdom and Canada. Of those, 23 are challenging their dismissals, arguing that they were targeted for participating in trade union activities.

Union Discord Server at the Center of the Dispute

The case has drawn attention to a private Discord server used by Rockstar employees to discuss workplace conditions and organize union activities.

According to the Independent Workers' Union of Great Britain (IWGB), information from the server was passed to Rockstar management beginning in January 2023.

The union alleges that managers received details about meetings, recruitment efforts, training sessions, and membership numbers. Former employees have also raised allegations that individuals who supplied information to management were rewarded with additional paid leave.

However, the specific claim concerning paid leave has not been independently verified through the primary sources reviewed.

Rockstar Games Denies Targeting Union Members

Rockstar Games has rejected accusations that the dismissals were motivated by employees' involvement in union organizing.

The company maintains that the affected workers violated confidentiality requirements by sharing sensitive internal information through Discord.

During tribunal proceedings in Glasgow, Rockstar's vice president of human resources, Robert Spampinato, also denied allegations that management had deliberately monitored employees' union membership.

The disagreement remains central to the proceedings, with former employees arguing that their union activities were the real reason for their dismissals.

Legal Dispute Continues Ahead of GTA 6 Release

The controversy comes as Rockstar Games prepares for the release of Grand Theft Auto VI, currently scheduled for November 19, 2026.

The employment tribunal is examining the circumstances surrounding the dismissals and the company's handling of information obtained from employee discussions.

For now, the allegations remain disputed, and the proceedings have not established that Rockstar rewarded employees for reporting union activities.
