Rockstar Reportedly Changes Game Development Strategy

Rockstar Games has reportedly changed how it develops major titles, moving away from its traditional approach of having multiple studios work on separate projects simultaneously.

According to a recent Bloomberg report examining the development of Grand Theft Auto VI, the company now places greater emphasis on bringing its global development teams together around a single flagship project.

Previously, Rockstar's studios operated with more independence, developing major games while providing additional support to other teams when necessary.

However, the increasing complexity of modern open-world games has reportedly encouraged the company to adopt a more centralized development structure.

Under this approach, Rockstar can concentrate a larger share of its developers, technology, and production resources on its highest-priority game rather than dividing them across several major projects.

This does not necessarily mean that every Rockstar employee works exclusively on GTA 6 or that smaller projects have been completely abandoned. Instead, the reported strategy reflects a change in how the company prioritizes its resources.

The shift could also influence Rockstar's future release schedule. Concentrating multiple studios on one game may improve coordination, although it does not guarantee shorter development cycles.

Rockstar has not announced which major project will receive priority after GTA 6, and it remains unclear whether this development structure will become the company's permanent approach.

Grand Theft Auto VI is currently scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
