RPCS3 PS4 Port v0.40 Released With Game Compatibility Fixes

The unofficial RPCS3 PS4 port has received version 0.40, introducing changes aimed at improving PlayStation 3 game compatibility, graphics stability, and emulator performance on PlayStation 4 hardware.

Roberix Studios released the experimental update on October 24, 2026, following the project's initial public version earlier this month.

According to the official RPCS3 PS4 Port v0.40 release notes, the update improves thread management by reducing unnecessary background activity and reserving more resources for running games.

A new automatic safe mode also adjusts individual game settings after a failure, with three fallback levels designed to address compatibility problems.

Graphics fixes target objects disappearing during shader compilation, including an issue observed in Sonic the Hedgehog (2006). The developers also addressed a video-memory crash affecting Wolverine.

Audio playback has been improved to prevent sound from disappearing after pausing, while configuration changes now apply more consistently.

The update expands offline support for physical discs and encrypted game images when the necessary keys are already available to the user. No game files or encryption keys are distributed with the project.

Additional interface improvements include game-specific backgrounds, menu music, and folder organization.

The project uses the original RPCS3 emulation core adapted for PS4 hardware and remains separate from the official RPCS3 development team.

Version 0.40 is still an experimental release. The developers acknowledge that several games reached their menus without entering stable gameplay in version 0.39, and further testing is required to determine whether the latest changes resolve those limitations.
