RuneScape Reignited Canceled Days After Announcement

RuneScape Reignited Canceled Days After Announcement

Jagex has officially canceled RuneScape Reignited less than two weeks after announcing the project at RuneFest 2026, following negative feedback from the game's community.

Originally revealed on October 3, RuneScape Reignited was scheduled to launch on December 2, offering players a fresh start with new characters, a separate economy, and updated progression systems.

However, the announcement raised concerns among existing players about splitting the community and the value of their established characters.

In an official statement published on Steam, RuneScape associate creative director Ryan Philpott, known as Mod Ryan, confirmed that Jagex would no longer proceed with Reignited.

Philpott acknowledged that the project had failed to meet players' expectations and emphasized that the studio wanted to attract returning and new players without undermining its existing community.

Despite the cancellation, Jagex is continuing with several improvements originally planned for December.

The Adventure Guide and the first part of the Remastered Journey will still launch on December 2, introducing changes designed to improve the experience for new and returning players.

The developer also confirmed that RuneScape's broader 2027 roadmap remains unchanged, including new storylines, additional content, and an Agility skill rework.

Jagex initially announced Reignited as part of its plans to modernize RuneScape during the franchise's 25th anniversary celebrations.

The cancellation affects the Reignited initiative rather than the original RuneScape game, which will continue receiving updates and new content.
