Samson Developer Liquid Swords Declares Bankruptcy

Liquid Swords, the Swedish game studio behind Samson: A Tyndalston Story, has officially entered bankruptcy proceedings after experiencing financial difficulties and reportedly failing to pay employees for several months.

The Stockholm District Court declared the company bankrupt on October 12, 2026, appointing lawyer Karl Björlin of Cirio as the bankruptcy administrator.

According to Cirio's official bankruptcy announcement, the studio's remaining assets primarily consist of intellectual property associated with Samson, its debut action game released earlier this year.

The administrator is now seeking a buyer for the business, leaving open the possibility that the game's rights and other assets could be acquired by another company.

Swedish publication Breakit, which originally investigated the studio's financial problems, reported that nearly 30 employees were affected after going several months without receiving their salaries.

The bankruptcy process means eligible employees can receive compensation through Sweden's state wage guarantee system.

Liquid Swords was founded in 2020 by Christofer Sundberg, co-founder of Avalanche Studios and a key figure behind the Just Cause franchise.

The studio released Samson in April 2026, offering an action-focused experience centered on close-quarters combat, driving, and a crime story.

However, the game received mixed reactions from players, including criticism of technical issues and gameplay mechanics.

Although Liquid Swords has entered bankruptcy, the administrator's attempt to sell the business means Samson's future ownership has not yet been determined.

No buyer or plans for further development have been officially announced.
