Samson Developer Liquid Swords Shuts Down After Bankruptcy
Liquid Swords, the Swedish game studio behind the open-world action game Samson: A Tyndalston Story, is shutting down following financial difficulties and bankruptcy proceedings.
Studio founder Christofer Sundberg, who previously co-founded Avalanche Studios and worked on the Just Cause franchise, confirmed the closure on October 19, 2026.
In a statement published through his official X account, Sundberg acknowledged that Samson performed significantly better on consoles than on PC, but the improved sales were not enough to keep the studio operating.
The closure follows reports that Liquid Swords had struggled to pay its employees, with approximately 27 staff members affected by the bankruptcy process.
According to reports originating from Swedish business publication Breakit, employees had experienced unpaid wages, while bankruptcy proceedings raised questions about the future of the company and its assets.
Liquid Swords was founded in 2020 with the ambition of creating focused action games while avoiding excessive development pressure and unnecessary workplace bureaucracy.
Its first game, Samson, launched on PC in April 2026 before arriving on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in September.
Despite the console release attracting stronger sales, the studio was unable to overcome its financial problems.
Sundberg also revealed that discussions are underway regarding possible continued support for Samson, suggesting that the game could still receive attention after the studio's closure.
However, no agreement or future development plans have been confirmed.
The shutdown marks the end of Liquid Swords' operations just months after the release of its debut title, leaving the future of Samson uncertain.
