Saros Sells 522,000 Copies, Trails Returnal on PS5

Housemarque's Saros has reportedly sold approximately 522,000 copies on PlayStation 5, falling behind the studio's previous game, Returnal, despite launching to a significantly larger console audience.

According to estimates from Alinea Analytics, Saros has generated around $40.4 million in gross revenue, compared with $50.5 million earned by Returnal over a comparable period after release.

As reported by IXBT Games, this represents a revenue difference of approximately 20%.

The sales gap is also notable. Returnal sold an estimated 649,000 copies during the equivalent period, outperforming Saros by roughly 127,000 units.

Returnal launched in April 2021, when the PS5 was still relatively new and its library of major exclusives remained limited. The game also attracted attention through its use of DualSense features and 3D audio.

Saros faced a different market when it arrived in April 2026. Players already had access to a much larger PlayStation library, alongside major releases such as Crimson Desert, Resident Evil Requiem, Hades 2, and Pragmata.

Although the PS5 installed base has grown more than elevenfold since Returnal's launch, that expansion has not translated into stronger sales for Housemarque's latest game.

The figures suggest that a larger console audience does not necessarily guarantee better commercial performance, particularly for games competing in a crowded release schedule.

These numbers are estimates from Alinea Analytics rather than officially confirmed sales figures from Sony or Housemarque.
