Shadow of the Colossus Remake Gets Unofficial PC Port
The 2018 remake of Shadow of the Colossus, previously exclusive to PlayStation 4, now has an unofficial PC port developed by the community. The project allows players to run the game on Windows with mouse and keyboard support, higher frame rates, and output resolutions up to 4K.
According to the project's GitHub repository, the port uses the game's original x86-64 code and translates PlayStation 4 graphics operations through Vulkan. It builds on technology from the unofficial Bloodborne PC port and incorporates components from the shadPS4 emulator.
The port supports a 60 FPS patch created by modder Illusion, although the feature currently requires the European 1.01 version of the game. Players can also use PlayStation and Xbox controllers, adjust graphics settings, and import compatible saves.
Performance remains inconsistent. The developer reports an average of approximately 67 FPS during a demonstration sequence on an RTX 2060 SUPER, with frame rates dropping to around 29–34 FPS in more demanding sections.
While the project includes support for 4K output, the standard rendering path uses 1080p with upscaling. Technical problems also remain, including shader compilation stutters and potential graphics issues on certain GPUs.
The unofficial port is available through GitHub, but it does not include the game's copyrighted files. Users must provide their own PS4 game dump and compatible system modules for audio.
Sony and Bluepoint Games are not involved in the project, and no official PC release of the Shadow of the Colossus remake has been announced.
