Silent Hill 2 Remake Developer Vows to Keep Physical Games Alive
Bloober Team, the studio behind the Silent Hill 2 remake, has reaffirmed its commitment to physical video games, with CEO Piotr Babieno saying the company intends to continue releasing disc and cartridge editions for as long as possible.
Speaking in an interview with GamesRadar, Babieno explained that physical game ownership remains important despite the industry's increasing shift toward digital distribution.
The discussion also included Tymon Smektała, the former Dying Light franchise director who recently joined Bloober Team's publishing subsidiary, Broken Mirror Games, as executive director.
Both executives highlighted the emotional connection between players and physical game collections. Smektała recalled a time when collecting games, merchandise, and memorabilia was an essential part of gaming culture.
Babieno acknowledged that digital distribution offers significant financial advantages for publishers, including lower costs and greater profitability. However, he argued that physical editions provide something digital purchases cannot fully replace.
According to the Bloober Team CEO, collecting games creates a stronger connection between players, developers, and the experiences they produce. Maintaining that relationship remains a priority for the studio.
The discussion also touched on ONYX: The Dark Grip, an upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive developed by Broken Mirror Games. The title emphasizes physical interaction through the console's touchscreen, motion controls, and microphone.
Bloober Team has confirmed that ONYX: The Dark Grip is scheduled for release in 2027, although no physical edition has been announced.
While the gaming industry continues expanding its digital offerings, Bloober Team's leadership intends to preserve physical releases wherever production and distribution remain possible.
