Sony Is Adding a Dedicated Anime Hub to PlayStation 5
Sony is planning to introduce a dedicated Crunchyroll anime hub to the PlayStation 5 home screen in spring 2027, giving users easier access to anime content directly from their consoles.
The new feature aims to create a closer connection between anime and video games, particularly titles that are adapted from or inspired by popular anime series.
According to Variety, Sony Interactive Entertainment has designed the new hub to make it easier for PlayStation users to discover and follow their favorite anime content.
Although the Crunchyroll app has been available on PlayStation 5 since the console launched in 2020, the upcoming feature will integrate anime content more directly into the console's home screen experience.
Instead of relying entirely on the existing application, users will have a dedicated section where they can explore anime series and discover content connected to their favorite games.
Crunchyroll explained the purpose of the partnership in an official statement: “Anime and video games have very involved and overlapping user communities, and the new experience brings the two worlds closer together on the PlayStation 5. Whether it’s an old audience of anime or people who get acquainted with a collection through a game, character, or world of interest, players will have a dedicated place to discover their anime and artifacts inspired by them, and they will easily access the full Crunchyroll program.”
The new hub is intended to serve both longtime anime fans and players who discover anime through video games, characters, or fictional worlds they already enjoy.
Rahul Purini, President of Crunchyroll, also discussed the collaboration with Sony Interactive Entertainment: “From the Crunchyroll subscription on the PlayStation to the production of Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, we’re going to go further with Sony’s interactive entertainment sector today by launching a one-step anime hub. Serving the fans is to be there where they are.”
The announcement highlights Sony's efforts to bring its gaming and anime services closer together. By adding a dedicated Crunchyroll section to the PlayStation 5 interface, the company hopes to make anime discovery more convenient for console users.
The feature is expected to arrive in spring 2027, although an exact launch date has not yet been announced.
