Star Wars: Galactic Racer Is Designed to Be Challenging

Star Wars: Galactic Racer is being developed with a strong focus on challenging gameplay, as Fuse Games wants players to feel that every successful race is earned rather than simply rewarded.

The upcoming racing game comes from a team that includes developers who previously worked on the Burnout series. However, the studio is taking a different approach to progression and difficulty.

Speaking to GamesRadar+, Fuse Games CEO Matt Webster explained that modern racing games should provide meaningful challenges instead of constantly rewarding players with new vehicles and upgrades.

Webster reflected on the Burnout series, where frequent rewards were an important part of the experience. He suggested that receiving too many rewards can eventually make them feel less significant.

With Star Wars: Galactic Racer, the development team wants even a fifth-place finish to feel satisfying when players have worked hard to achieve it.

Races feature high speeds, aggressive opponents, and a limited number of opportunities to recover from crashes. Players will need to improve their driving skills and make careful decisions to progress through the game's campaign.

Despite the demanding racing mechanics, Fuse Games is also introducing quieter moments between competitions. Players will be able to explore different planets and experience activities that offer a break from the intensity of racing.

The studio believes this balance between demanding competitions and slower exploration will help maintain player engagement without making the experience unnecessarily exhausting.

Star Wars: Galactic Racer is currently in development, with its creators aiming to deliver a racing experience where skill and persistence matter as much as speed.
