Steam Beta Update Separates DLC Achievements and Adds Comparisons

Valve has introduced a major overhaul of Steam's achievement system, allowing players to track progress more accurately and compare achievements with friends.

The new feature, called Achievement Sets, is currently available through the Steam Client Beta and gives developers the ability to organize achievements into separate collections.

According to Valve's official announcement, developers can create achievement groups for different game modes, character classes, downloadable content, and seasonal events.

One of the biggest improvements addresses a long-standing frustration among completionists. Previously, adding new DLC achievements could reduce a player's 100% completion percentage, even if they had already completed the original game.

With the new system, DLC achievements are counted separately until players have access to the additional content. Developers can also archive seasonal achievements, preventing expired challenges from affecting completion progress.

Steam's achievements page has also been redesigned to display overall progress, individual achievement sets, and completion statistics in one place.

Another addition allows players to compare their achievements with up to three friends simultaneously, including rare achievements, completed sets, and DLC progress.

Several games already support the feature, including Euro Truck Simulator 2, American Truck Simulator, Forza Horizon 5, Portal 2, Left 4 Dead 2, and Crusader Kings III.

The update also renames the Perfect Games section to Completed and allows players to display finished achievement sets in their Completionist Showcase.

Achievement Sets remain in beta, and Valve has not announced a date for their general release.
