Steam Outage Leaves Players Stuck on Loading User Data

Steam experienced widespread login problems on October 26, 2026, leaving PC and Steam Deck users unable to access their game libraries as the desktop client became stuck on a persistent loading screen.

The disruption affected players across multiple countries, with reports increasing throughout Monday morning. Many encountered an endless "Loading User Data" message after opening Steam or restarting the application.

In an original discussion on Reddit's Steam Support community, users described being unable to reach their libraries after purchasing games, activating product keys, or attempting new downloads.

However, those activities have not been confirmed as the cause of the malfunction.

Downdetector recorded a sharp increase in complaints, while SteamDB's unofficial status tracker continued showing several core services as operational. Steam's browser-based Store and Community pages also remained accessible for many users.

The incident followed another Steam disruption on October 21, making it the platform's second significant reported service problem within a week.

Some affected players attempted restarting Steam, switching to Offline Mode, or running the application with administrator privileges. Results varied, and no universal workaround was established.

By later on October 26, reports began declining, with numerous players regaining access to their accounts and libraries. The issue appeared largely resolved, although isolated problems continued to be reported.

Valve had not publicly identified the cause or announced a specific fix at the time of reporting.

The incident highlights how client authentication and library-loading failures can disrupt access to games even when Steam's storefront remains online.
