SteamOS 3.9.5 Stable Released With Linux 7.2 and Game Fixes
Valve has officially released SteamOS 3.9.5 to the Stable channel, bringing major system upgrades, improved Steam Deck power efficiency, and compatibility fixes for several popular PC games.
Released on October 23, 2026, the update marks the stable debut of SteamOS 3.9 after several months of testing through Preview and Beta channels.
According to the official SteamOS 3.9.5 release notes, Valve upgraded the operating system to Linux kernel 7.2 and updated Desktop Mode from KDE Plasma 6.4.3 to 6.7.3.
The update also introduces a refreshed Arch Linux package base and improved idle power consumption on Steam Deck when no audio is playing.
For Lenovo Legion Go 2 owners, SteamOS 3.9.5 fixes a system crash when launching Forza Horizon 6 and adds preliminary brightness control support.
Valve also addressed compatibility problems preventing Elden Ring and Dark Souls III from running on systems equipped with recent Intel Panther Lake processors.
Additional improvements include fixes for RDNA1 and RDNA2 GPU suspend and resume issues, better Steam Frame wireless adapter support, and Steam Remote Play fixes on Steam Machine.
The update also resolves certain frame limiter problems affecting VRR displays and introduces improvements to Wi-Fi connectivity.
For developers, SteamOS now offers enhanced virtual machine graphics acceleration through virtio-gpu and Venus.
Preliminary hibernation functionality has also been added, although it remains unavailable through Game Mode and is currently disabled on Steam Deck because of an unresolved driver issue.
SteamOS 3.9.5 is available through the system update settings on supported devices using the Stable channel.
