Switch 2 Jailbreak Tool PlumeUSB Uses Original Switch

A new Nintendo Switch homebrew tool called PlumeUSB allows the original Switch to act as a USB keyboard for Switch 2 security research, simplifying text entry in the SmileBASIC 4 programming environment.

Developed by MichelSama, the project does not introduce a new jailbreak vulnerability. Instead, it automates keyboard input used by existing Switch 2 homebrew research, reducing the need for separate keyboard-emulation hardware.

The developer released Plume USB version 0.1.7 on October 24, 2026, introducing automatic indentation compensation for text editors that duplicate spaces or tabs after a new line.

According to the official PlumeUSB GitHub repository, the application supports US QWERTY and French AZERTY keyboard layouts, UTF-8 text files up to 256 KiB, and configurable typing delays.

Earlier updates also improved how the software handles Enter key presses after testers encountered missing line breaks during Switch 2 experiments.

The tool runs on a homebrew-enabled original Nintendo Switch and communicates through USB keyboard emulation. Developer documentation confirms that successful USB communication does not always guarantee accurate text entry in every application.

PlumeUSB is relevant to the emerging Switch 2 homebrew scene because researchers have been using SmileBASIC 4 as an entry point for experimental software execution.

However, PlumeUSB itself provides neither kernel-level access nor permanent custom firmware. It remains a supporting utility rather than a standalone Switch 2 jailbreak.

Version 0.1.7 also includes additional regression tests, although compatibility and reliable typing speeds still depend on the receiving application.
