The Last Guardian Gets Unofficial PC Port Running at 75 FPS

An independent developer is working on an unofficial PC port of The Last Guardian, allowing the PlayStation 4 game to run directly on computer hardware without relying on full console emulation.

The project remains in development, but its creator has already demonstrated the game running from the main menu into gameplay with functioning audio and an unlocked frame rate.

According to the developer's Reddit announcement, The Last Guardian currently runs at approximately 60–75 FPS at 1080p on a system equipped with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070, AMD Ryzen 5 9600X, and 32GB of DDR5 RAM. The main menu reportedly reaches 120 FPS.

Unlike conventional emulation, the project runs the game's original x86-64 code directly on the PC processor while replacing the PlayStation 4 system libraries with custom implementations.

For graphics rendering, the developer uses components from the shadPS4 emulator to translate PlayStation 4 GPU commands through Vulkan.

Audio implementation has been one of the biggest challenges. The developer recreated Sony's Ngs2 audio system, allowing music, dialogue, Trico's sounds, and character footsteps to function correctly.

The creator also acknowledged using Claude Opus as a programming assistant, although testing and technical decisions were handled personally.

Despite the promising performance, the port is not yet ready for public release. Additional optimization and testing are required, particularly to improve CPU performance and graphics synchronization.

The developer plans to share the project once it becomes more stable. Game files will not be included, meaning users will need to provide files from their own copies of The Last Guardian.
