Tony Hawk's Project 8 PC Port Adds 144 FPS and Mod Support
Tony Hawk's Project 8 has received an unofficial PC port through Project 8 Plus, a static recompilation of Neversoft's 2006 PlayStation 3 skateboarding game. The project introduces uncapped frame rates, ultrawide support, enhanced textures, and extensive modding tools.
Developed by MaxLeiter, Project 8 Plus uses sp00nznet's ps3recomp technology to translate the original PS3 game code into a native PC executable, rather than running the finished game through a PlayStation 3 emulator.
The developer's official GitHub repository confirms uncapped FPS support, allowing players to target higher refresh rates, including 120 Hz and 144 Hz displays. Actual performance depends on hardware and gameplay conditions.
Graphics improvements include optional HD textures and smoothed character models. Approximately 5,000 original textures and models can be enhanced using an AI upscaling process performed locally on the player's graphics card.
Modding is another major feature. A Lua scripting API supports custom gameplay modifications, while a visual level editor allows players to create and modify environments. Changes can appear in real time through hotloading.
Additional features include custom soundtracks, expanded customization options, keyboard controls, and Xbox controller support with updated button prompts.
Version 0.9.0 targets Windows 10 and 11 with DirectX 12 graphics hardware. Experimental Linux support is also available, but Steam Deck compatibility and online multiplayer should not be considered confirmed features.
The project requires legally obtained files from the US PS3 release, identified as BLUS30011, version 01.02. RPCS3 is used during preparation to decrypt the original game files, not to run the completed port.
Project 8 Plus is an unofficial fan project unaffiliated with Activision or Neversoft.
