Vampire Survivors May Lose 48 Castlevania Music Tracks
Vampire Survivors developer poncle has warned that 48 music tracks from the Ode to Castlevania expansion could eventually be removed from the game's soundtrack package on Steam due to a limited-time licensing agreement with Konami.
The announcement comes as the studio celebrates Castlevania's 40th anniversary by adding the complete Ode to Castlevania soundtrack to the existing Vampire Survivors Soundtrack DLC.
According to poncle's official announcement on Steam, the 48 bonus tracks are available at no additional cost to players who already own the soundtrack package.
However, the developer explained that the licensing agreement is temporary. If the rights cannot be renewed in the future, poncle may have to remove the Castlevania tracks from the soundtrack package.
The studio has not announced a removal date, and the warning does not indicate that the music will disappear from the Ode to Castlevania expansion itself.
Poncle also confirmed that it was unable to secure permission to distribute the tracks through music streaming platforms, despite requests from players.
Alongside the soundtrack announcement, the developer released public beta version 1.17.108, introducing custom characters, a new stage, additional weapons, a relic, and Baron Husker, the winner of a community challenge.
The studio is also preparing improvements to Steam achievements, taking advantage of Valve's new system for separating base-game achievements from downloadable content.
While the Castlevania music is currently available through the soundtrack package, its long-term availability will depend on future licensing negotiations between poncle and Konami.
