White Knight Chronicles II PC Port Reaches Playable Areas

White Knight Chronicles II is making progress toward an unofficial native PC port, with a new PS3 recompilation project successfully running menus, character creation, cinematics, and explorable areas on Windows.

Developed by the team behind WK2D, the project uses the open-source PS3Recomp framework to translate PlayStation 3 code into C/C++ before compiling it for modern PC hardware.

According to the developer's official GitHub repository, development currently focuses on White Knight Chronicles I, which was included with the PS3 release of White Knight Chronicles II.

The latest build allows players to explore the starting town, control their character and camera, and save progress using the game's Logic Stone system. Loading an existing save and transitioning into Balastor Plain have also been demonstrated.

The port uses Vulkan as its primary graphics renderer, while DirectX 12 remains experimental. Its graphics menu includes resolution options, fullscreen settings, VSync, FXAA anti-aliasing, anisotropic filtering, and adjustable frame-rate limits.

Although higher frame-rate settings are available, the developer recommends 30 FPS because faster playback can cause problems with movement, cutscenes, and area transitions.

Performance remains inconsistent in demanding locations. Recent tests recorded approximately 23–41 FPS in crowded town scenes with the frame-rate limit removed, while lighter areas can maintain 30 FPS.

Several issues remain unresolved, including graphical flickering, occasional movement stutter, and incomplete rendering compatibility.

Combat, extended exploration, and a complete playthrough have not yet been validated.

The project currently targets Windows, with Linux and Apple Silicon support planned for the future. Users must provide their own files from the US PS3 release, BLUS30784, version 1.00.
