World of Warcraft: Forever Director Hints at Console Plans
Blizzard Entertainment has renewed speculation about World of Warcraft coming to consoles and handheld devices, with franchise executive producer Holly Longdale discussing plans to make the MMORPG accessible across more hardware.
Speaking in an interview with GamesRadar, Longdale explained that Blizzard wants players to experience World of Warcraft wherever they prefer, with improved controller support serving as an important first step.
The discussion focused on World of Warcraft: Forever, the upcoming version of Blizzard's long-running MMORPG, which introduces official gamepad support on PC.
Longdale described controller compatibility as part of a broader effort to make the game more flexible across different devices. She also referenced Microsoft's Project Helix, suggesting that future gaming platforms could offer fewer distinctions between traditional consoles and PCs.
Blizzard has already observed players experimenting with World of Warcraft on handheld hardware, including the ROG Ally X. The developers also mentioned an unusual community experiment involving a modified Nintendo DS.
However, these examples do not constitute confirmation of an official handheld or console release.
Blizzard's official World of Warcraft: Forever overview confirms gamepad support as a core feature, alongside updated character models, interface options, and other accessibility improvements.
The game is scheduled to launch on November 4, 2026, for PC and Mac.
Although Longdale's comments indicate an interest in reaching more devices, Blizzard has not announced dedicated Xbox, PlayStation, or Nintendo versions of World of Warcraft.
For now, controller support represents a confirmed development, while potential console ports remain unannounced.
