Xbox Executive Deletes X Account After AI Controversy
Xbox Senior Business Strategy Manager Brandon Stirrup's X account has become unavailable following a series of controversial statements about artificial intelligence in game development.
The disappearance comes less than a day after Stirrup publicly defended the growing use of AI tools across the gaming industry and criticized developers who refuse to embrace the technology.
According to an October 19 update from Windows Report, Stirrup's X profile was no longer accessible, and his previous posts were unavailable. The reason for the account's disappearance remains unclear.
Before the account went offline, Stirrup argued that gaming companies were reluctant to acknowledge their use of AI because of negative reactions from players.
He also claimed that hundreds of people at Xbox were already using the technology, although that figure has not been independently verified.
To demonstrate the capabilities of AI-assisted development, Stirrup shared footage of a basic football game he said he had created using Unreal Engine and AI tools.
The project reportedly required approximately three hours of active work across two days, despite Stirrup having no previous game development experience.
His comments sparked criticism over the role of generative AI in the gaming industry, particularly concerns about its potential impact on developers and creative jobs.
Stirrup had also suggested that his outspoken comments could put his position at Microsoft at risk.
However, there is currently no confirmation that Microsoft has taken disciplinary action against him or that his account disappeared because of the backlash.
The incident adds another chapter to the ongoing debate about how artificial intelligence should be used in video game development.
