Xbox Game Pass Could Let Players Build Custom Subscription Plans

 

Microsoft is reportedly considering a major Xbox Game Pass subscription overhaul that would allow players to choose which features they want to pay for instead of relying entirely on predefined membership tiers.

According to a Fortune report about Microsoft's Xbox strategy, the company is exploring a more flexible subscription model that could offer individual features and services as optional additions.

The proposed system would let subscribers customize their memberships based on how they use Xbox Game Pass, potentially separating console game access, Xbox Cloud Gaming, and online multiplayer into different options.

Rather than paying for a package containing features they rarely use, players could potentially select a smaller combination of services.

Microsoft could also retain its existing subscription tiers as starting points, allowing users to choose a standard plan before adding other benefits.

Fortnite Crew is another service that could become relevant to this approach. It is already included with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, as confirmed in an official Xbox Wire announcement.

However, Microsoft has not confirmed whether Fortnite Crew would become a separately selectable feature under any future subscription structure.

The reported changes could give players more control over their monthly spending, particularly those who primarily use Game Pass on one platform or have little interest in cloud gaming.

Whether the system would actually reduce subscription costs remains unknown, as no proposed prices or complete package details have been disclosed.

The potential restructuring follows earlier changes to Xbox Game Pass, including adjustments to subscription tiers and the benefits available through Ultimate.
