Xbox PC Game Pass Games Now Run on Linux With Unofficial Xodus Nexus

Xbox PC Game Pass games can now run locally on Linux through Xodus Nexus, an unofficial open-source launcher designed to bring supported Microsoft Store titles to Linux and SteamOS devices without requiring Windows.

Developed by independent creator domsvoboda, Xodus Nexus allows players to sign in with their Microsoft account, browse eligible games, download them, and launch compatible titles directly on Linux.

Unlike Xbox Cloud Gaming, the software runs supported games on the user's own hardware using a modified Wine and Proton-based runtime.

According to the official Xodus Nexus GitHub repository, the launcher combines purchased Microsoft Store games, PC Game Pass titles, and locally installed games into a single library.

Players still need a valid game purchase or an active subscription that provides access to the titles they want to play.

The project has already reported successful tests with games including Gears of War: E-Day, Deep Rock Galactic, Minecraft Dungeons, and Hogwarts Legacy. However, compatibility varies between games, and some titles may fail to launch or experience problems with online services.

The latest Xodus Nexus 0.3.8 update, released on October 19, 2026, introduces detailed game pages with descriptions and screenshots, alongside Xbox achievements, total playtime, and recent activity information for supported accounts.

The update also improves controller navigation, installation management, and account-related error handling.

Full details are available in the official Xodus Nexus release notes.

Steam Deck support is another area of active development. Users can add installed games to their Steam libraries as non-Steam shortcuts and attempt to launch them through Gaming Mode.

However, the developer warns that Steam Deck compatibility remains experimental, with certain sign-in screens and system dialogs potentially requiring mouse or touchscreen input.

Xodus Nexus is not affiliated with Microsoft, Xbox, or Valve, and it is separate from the original Xodus development team.

Although the project is still evolving, it offers Linux users an alternative way to access compatible PC Game Pass games without relying exclusively on cloud streaming.
