Zelda: A Link to the Past HD-2D Fan Remake Reveals Gameplay
A fan-made HD-2D remake of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past is currently in development, with its creator sharing the first gameplay footage showcasing updated visuals, dynamic weather, and several gameplay improvements.
The project is being developed by Reddit user JoggingThruThe6, who revealed the work-in-progress remake in an original Reddit post on October 13, 2026.
Unlike a simple graphical enhancement, the project introduces several systems designed to make the classic Zelda adventure feel more dynamic.
These include improved lighting, changing weather conditions, and a complete day-and-night cycle. Non-playable characters can follow daily schedules, while guards feature improved artificial intelligence that allows them to alert nearby enemies.
The developer has also redesigned the game's introduction, world map, menus, and interior transitions. Players can move between outdoor environments, buildings, and caves without loading screens, while doors feature new animations and lighting effects.
Another experimental addition involves voxel-based graphics, although the developer acknowledged that this feature currently causes visual glitches.
The remake has primarily been tested on the AYN Thor Android handheld, where its creator reports performance reaching 60 FPS.
The device's dual-screen functionality is also supported, including customizable item shortcuts and haptic feedback.
According to the developer, an Android APK is already working on single-screen and dual-screen devices, but it is not ready for public distribution.
The project's source repository also remains private, with the creator expressing interest in collaborating with other developers.
No release date or official PC version has been announced. The remake is an independent fan project and is not affiliated with Nintendo.
