Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake Demand Surprises Nintendo

Nintendo has admitted that demand for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake has exceeded its expectations ahead of the game's November 5, 2026, release on Nintendo Switch 2.

Bill van Zyll, Nintendo's vice president and general manager for Latin America, discussed the unexpected response during an interview with Brazilian content creator Rodrigo Coelho at Brasil Game Show 2026.

According to the executive, interest in the upcoming remake and its accompanying 40th anniversary products has created supply shortages across multiple regions.

Van Zyll described the response as a global phenomenon, highlighting particularly strong demand in the United States and Brazil.

Nintendo had anticipated a positive reception, but the number of pre-orders and the popularity of the special-edition hardware exceeded its forecasts.

The company is now working to replenish supplies of the game, the Zelda-themed Nintendo Switch 2 console, and the matching Pro Controller.

However, Van Zyll could not provide specific restock dates or quantities, asking customers to remain patient while Nintendo coordinates additional shipments.

The upcoming remake brings the acclaimed 1998 Nintendo 64 adventure to Switch 2 with updated visuals, improved performance, and modernized gameplay features.

Its release forms part of Nintendo's celebrations marking the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda franchise.

Despite reports of strong pre-order demand, Nintendo has not disclosed official sales figures for the remake or confirmed comparisons with Grand Theft Auto VI.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake launches exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, 2026.
