Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake Is Over 800 Times Larger
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake for Nintendo Switch 2 has an estimated file size of 27GB, making it more than 800 times larger than the original Nintendo 64 game released in 1998.
According to the official Nintendo Store listing, the upcoming remake requires approximately 27GB of storage space. The original version was distributed on a 32MB cartridge, highlighting the substantial difference between the two releases.
The figure has also appeared on physical download cards available in Japanese stores. On October 19, X user Genki_JPN shared a photograph showing the same 27GB requirement.
Despite the dramatic increase over the original, the remake remains relatively modest compared with many modern games.
At 27GB, Ocarina of Time is larger than the Nintendo Switch 2 editions of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, which are listed at approximately 24GB and 20GB, respectively.
Nintendo has rebuilt the classic adventure with updated visuals, expanded dialogue, voiced cutscenes, and orchestral music. The remake also introduces enhanced controls, including jumping and dashing, alongside modern camera movement.
These improvements represent a significant technical upgrade over the original Nintendo 64 release, although Nintendo has not provided a detailed breakdown of how the game's storage space is allocated.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time launches exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, 2026. Nintendo currently describes the 27GB download size as an estimate, meaning the final requirement could still change before release.
